Here it is July and this is the first 300 target shoot of 2026. BIG50 format shoots have been held for the most part and most have been well attended. Last month we were done by noon before the heat really ramped up.

This Saturday the temps will be in the mid 90's so please start hydrating days before the event. If you are planning on shooting registration will start at 8:30AM and as soon as squads are ready shooting will begin. Please be prepared so that we can get the ball rolling. Normally it takes about 1 hour to shoot 100 trap targets so do the math. We will be shooting 100 targets per trap but that is subject to change. We will also be offering more handicap targets at $16 per hundred if there are three shooters willing to shoot.

This ATA event will cater to ATA registered members only. If you would like to join the ATA Lane Murray might have some "free" ATA memberships for new applicants. The BIG50 format allows both ATA and non-registered ATA shooters to participate together and learn how registered events work.

Of course, these shoots don't run on their own and volunteers for loading and scoring are always welcome. The PAT traps we use cost about 8K and learning how to operate and load them safely is crucial to range safety. So, if you are interested, please come join us this Saturday.

Now I do not want to brag on club members but here goes. How many of you realize that we have some of the top trap shooters in the state? We have the 2025 Dixie Grand Singles Champion with the lone 199 Mark Cox. We have the 2026 NC State Handicap Champ with a 97 from the 27-Mark Spoon. We have the NC State high average leader for men Jeff Galloway. Isaac McCoy just returned from the WVA State Shoot and got himself punched back to the 27-yard line and there are more folks. We have three young 27-yard shooters that include Gage Malone, Jacob Gossett and now Isaac McCoy and before long Colson Allen will be joining them. I would like to take that picture of those four guys shooting from the 27. And don't forget recent Jacksonville University Graduate Tyler "Cowboy" Cox..... RCGC is vital to the trap shooting community and aids greatly in the development of shooters of all ages!

Come out and join us this weekend to watch or help or whatever we would be glad to see you and heck maybe some of the board members could come out for moral support.
