Here are the biographies of those volunteering to serve you on the Board.  You can vote by pressing one of the green [VOTE] buttons or cast your ballot in person at RCGC on December 7th from 10:00am to noon.

    Treasurer (one seat available)

    Bert Schmitz

You elected me to the Board in December 2020 and in November 2021 the Board made me Secretary. As Secretary, I cleaned up several neglected issues. The most serious ones are listed below. Thanks to my fellow Board members and others who helped in closing these gaps.

    • Our casualty insurance policy was last updated 11 years ago. Over $1M of our newest assets were uninsured. The club could have been lost forever from devastating storms we have seen recently across our state. Our coverage is now up to date.
    • The required actions listed in an Environmental Stewardship Plan RCGC committed to 18 years ago were brought up to date. This included the reclamation project that removed 241,283 pounds of lead from the environment and generated $59,754 in cash for the club.
    • After working with legal firms for 19 months, RCGC owns all the land on which we operate for the first time in 24 years. The 22 acres owned by Piedmont Shooting Club covering trap fields 4, 5, and 6 were donated to RCGC. Piedmont’s $33,661 cash donation covered all legal fees with cash left over for RCGC.
    • Rockingham County 9-1-1 Services had Ron Anderson listed as keyholder to access to our secure facility. Ron has not been club President in over 9 years. Today the Rockingham County Computer Aided Dispatch system has a Premise Alert for RCGC with a gate code, padlock combinations, and an updated list of keyholders to expedite their entry onto the grounds.

To ensure we keep these critical items up to date, I created an Annual Operating Calendar for future Officers of RCGC.

I also set up the new web site and credit card processing which many members have used for dues and target payments. Credit card payments also make the club volunteers’ jobs easier and reduce the chances of loss or errors.

As Treasurer, I will apply these same skills to reduce labor, improve accuracy, and update RCGC’s financial reporting. Please give me that opportunity with your vote.

RCGC Bylaws, Article VI – Officers and Directors

    • Paragraph I: Any vacancy in the Executive Board may be filled by a majority vote of the remaining members of the Board.

    Directors (three seats available)

    Stephen Broad

I have been a member of Rockingham County Gun Club since 2018 actively serving as Firearms Safety Officer, then as Membership Chairman, and as a one-year term member of the Board of Directors.

As Membership Chairman for the past 14 months, I have been privileged to present to prospective members the benefits and facilities of RCGC, as well as our safety rules that have supported a firearms free accident report since the club inception. I have had the honor of meeting every new member during this time and developing new friendships in shooting. While serving on the Board of Directors, I have actively supported improvements and new shooting activities such as Five Stand and Golf Ball.

I would like to continue as a member of the Board and ask for your support and vote.

    James Brown

I am James Brown, and I am running for a position on the Board of Directors of the Rockingham County Gun Club (RCGC).

I have been a member for around 20 years and was selected as Member of the Year in 2022. I have shot on all venues during that time but primarily shoot trap and skeet.

My goal as a board member is to keep RCGC as the top gun club in North Carolina, while using our resources wisely for improvements and maintenance.

My leadership experience consists of 8 years as President of the Guilford County Beekeepers, an organization of about 140 members. During that time we were selected as Beekeeping Club of the Year for the state of North Carolina. I also served on their board for four years.

I am a retired Code Enforcement Official with Guilford after 32 years.

I respectfully submit this resume and hope you will elect me to our board so I can further serve our Gun Club.

Thank you for your vote and confidence in me beforehand!

    Sincerely,

    James Brown

    Jay Bunting

Jay Bunting has been a member of RCGC for 26 years. He resides in Summerfield, has been married for 38 years and has two children. Jay retired from Remington Arms Company in December of 2019 after a 37-year career in sales, marketing, and product development. The last position he held was VP of Domestic Wholesale Sales. Jay is licensed concealed carry holder, a member of U.S. LawShield, and a life member of the NRA, NSSA, ATA and PGCA (Parker Gun Collectors Association). He is a member of the Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame in Delaware and North Carolina. Hobbies include waterfowl and upland hunting, competitive clay target shooting, shotshell reloading, physical fitness, and gardening. Jay is seeking a three-year Director’s position on the Executive Board of the RCGC.

    Van Fleming

Top of the day. I’m Van Fleming running for the Board of Directors.

I have been a member of the club for 18 years. If you visit the Club Face Book page you have seen my post and pictures of mostly of the Thursday Trap shooters and other venues when I get a chance. If you have seen someone mowing on Thursdays there is a good chance it was me, I want the club to look first class and I’ll always wave at you!!

I shoot mostly shotgun and handguns. I’m looking forward to the 5 stand and have volunteered to help with that. I am always willing to help people get into shooting trap and learning how to set up the machines and somehow I have become the ERAD go to guy!

My work background is pretty simple and short…. I worked for a small company called Duke Power for 30 years, got sold off and was a contractor for 16 years working for said company. I was a SCUBA instructor in Greensboro for 45+ years. I’m now semi-retired working as a driver for Enterprise Mobility (Enterprise Rent a Car).

    Stay safe, shoot often!!

    Ed Kluttz

Seeking a board members position on the Board of Directors of RCGC

I have been a member of RCGC since 2018 and have remained in good standing with the club for my membership duration.

When at the club, I usually focus my time at the pistol pits and shooting trap with friends and family. I would like to spend more time on the rifle range and leaning to shoot skeet.

I have worked with a family-owned construction company based in Greensboro for the last 23 years. I believe I would bring a good perspective to upkeep, renovation, and repair items around the club when they are discussed. Selecting and doing these repairs responsibly is important to me.

I think continued upkeep and evolution of the club facilities is key to continuing strong RCGC membership and enjoyment of the membership. Promotion of youth programs and activities is also vital to the club members family’s getting full use of the facilities.

    E. Clay Price

I have been a member of RCGC since 2010. I have been shooting, reloading, hunting and fishing all my life. Currently involved in mostly trap and I have shot competitively in High Power Rifle. My professional background/experience is government auditing, tax and financial accounting. I am a graduate of High Point University with a B.S. Accounting. I am a US Navy Desert Shield/Desert Storm Veteran with experience in data processing/supply/logistics. I am married and have a son, who is a rank of Captain in the US Army currently stationed at Ft Gregg-Adams (formerly Ft Lee), Petersburg, Virginia.
